Talent Plus, Inc. is a consulting firm based in Lincoln, Nebraska, and with an office in Singapore, that works with leaders in a variety of brands to help them select top performers and place them in roles that are in alignment with their natural talents. They literally have it down to a science.
As you know, one of the best ways to ensure you are delivering a phenomenal customer experience is to hire people whose gifts lend themselves to doing just that! I got to experience their company culture first hand when I visited their Lincoln, Nebraska office this past week. Here are some highlights.
My incredible experience began even prior to my flight! Abby Christensen from Talent Plus was kind enough to reserve their guest cottage for me and send me a detailed email with everything I would need to know for my visit. When I arrived, I was greeted warmly and after a wonderful dinner with President and Co-Chairman Kimberly Rath and Chief Communications Officer Cydney Koukol, was taken to the guest cottage. I must say, I would have loved to stay longer! Such a beautiful place, expertly stocked with everyone one might need, and Abby even made sure their were snacks compliant with my Whole30 lifestyle.
The next morning, I was treated to the red carpet welcome you may have read about in 501 Ways to Roll Out the Red Carpet for Your Customers. You know when you walk into a building and you can just “feel” what their company culture is like? That’s what I experienced at Talent Plus. In addition to the very engaged team applauding as I entered, throughout the day team members seemed excited about their work and mission and happy to share it with me.
First up was Formation. All available team members gathered in Hall Hospitality to review & discuss the core value of the day, give shout outs to each other and clients during “Plays of the Day,” and provide and listen to information that would affect their work day. It took 15 minutes and got everyone ready for the day. I was thoroughly impressed by the level of engagement AND that it’s not led by the same leader day-after-day. Rather, team members take turns leading the meeting.
Just outside of Hall Hospitality is their kitchen where Chef Scott takes pride in preparing healthy lunches for the Talent Plus team. He even grows his own herbs right there in the kitchen. To my delight, he prepared a Whole30 compliant lunch for me in addition to the gorgeous salad available to everyone.
As you recall from 501 Ways, there is only one coffee pot at Talent Plus, even though there are 3 floors to the building. Why? Because they realized if there were a pot on every floor, some associates would never meet each other. What a great way to tweak the environment to prevent silo syndrome.
The building itself is gorgeous and full of windows and reminders of how far they’ve come in the 27 year plus history. The research that goes into their specialized selection process is astounding and impressive. Also, it’s important work! As Cydney Koukol once told me:
With every person you hire, your company culture either gets better or worse.
I’d say that’s true about your customer service as well. Worth spending time on selecting the right people!
As I walked around with Abby and Cydney, something struck me. Their senior leaders had the same size offices as their associates. Pretty cool, and says a lot about how intentional they are with their company culture.
Even as I left, the red carpet treatment continued. Abby handed me a cooler with water and Whole30 snacks for the road.
