In a workplace, teams become silos when they isolate themselves from other departments, refuse to share information, and won’t work together toward a common goal.
So what’s a leader to do? Here are 3 Tips to Overcome Workplace Silo Syndrome!
Create Intentional Events to Help Cross-Functional Teams Get to Know Each Other
One of the reasons our Red-Carpet Training is so interactive is so that staff members from different departments can get to know each other on a more individual basis. We’ve been by told by participants that this improves interdepartmental communication. It also helps to ensure that everyone is working together toward common goals for the company.
Be Very Transparent About Everyone’s Progress
Share the progress of each department on common goals with everyone. Highlight the strengths that every department contributes and have every department provide updates on their part of the goal in front of the entire team.
Again, complete transparency!
Once a Month, Highlight a Specific Department
For instance, one of our clients creates videos every month all about one department that they share with the entire team. Everybody gets to know a little bit more about that department, and it has definitely contributed to the awareness of what every team contributes towards the common goals.
