Red Carpet Customer Service is about making the person in front of you right now significant. Important. Special. If you’ve heard me speak, you know this is the foundation of every presentation I give. It’s my message and mission. The Red Carpet Way. While customer service is the topic, the message is greater. It’s about the way we treat each other. It’s about kindness at work. There’s a saying that goes, “The way you do anything is the way you do everything.” I’m not sure where it came from, but it speaks volumes.
Kahlil Gibran wrote, “Work is Love Made Visible.”
The way you serve your customers can make – or break – someone’s day. The way you treat your employees or co-workers can encourage – or discourage. Show up to work ready to make others feel important, and you’ll make the world a better place – day-by-day.
I’ve been thinking about kindness at work a lot these days. The world needs more of it and what better place to practice than at work? To that end, I’ve compiled the list below.
Take the challenge and see how many of these you can complete in the next 31 days. Or come up with your own! Let’s end the year by ensuring that our work is “love made visible” and be intentional about making the world – and our workplaces – a better place.
Here are some Kindness ideas.
Today, compliment someone on their work.
Today, learn and use the names of three people whose names you don’t yet know and use.
Today, share only positive memes and write positive comments on social media. Refrain from negativity.
Today, when you receive great service, find and tell that person’s manager. If you aren’t out and about, consider leaving a Five Star review for a business online.
Today, look for opportunities to help and jump in wherever you’re needed.
Today, write and send a handwritten thank you note.
Today, strive to learn about a holiday that you don’t celebrate.
Today, have lunch or a coffee break with someone from another department – and someone you don’t normally spend time with during your workday.
 Today, refrain from gossip. Period.
Today, call someone to tell them you love them.
Today, do someone else’s chores for them before they get to it.
Today, write a sincere thank you note to your boss.
Today, find a way to surprise and delight a customer.
Today, strive to stand in the shoes of another and really listen, without interrupting, to another point of view. Be curious, not defensive.
Today, bring in treats to share with your co-workers.
Today, focus on the good in everyone – especially those you don’t particularly like. Find something good in them and focus on that all day.
Today, whatever grudge you’re holding – let it go. Forgive. Decide not to be upset about this anymore.
Today, donate time or money to a worthy cause.
Today, Do whatever it takes to help a customer. Strive to go further than you normally would in order to help them.
Today, strive to make someone’s day with your words and actions.
Today, strive to learn a little bit about the work another department does.
 Today, surprise & delight a co-worker.
Today, strive to stay focused on the positive all day long.
Today, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.
Today, give thanks for everything you have in your life. Make a gratitude list and be thankful for all the good in your life.
Today, focus on listening and understanding before sharing your thoughts and opinions.
Today, choose your own “random act of kindness” and perform it anonymously.
Today, choose a positive quote and try to live by it all day. For instance, “Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.” ~ Author Unknown
Today, have lunch or coffee with your newest co-worker.
Today, write and send a “Today is Your Day” card. This is a card to just let someone know that today is the day you’ll be thinking positive thoughts about them and how much you appreciate them.
Today, decide what you will do in the coming year to focus on kindness at work.
